Integrity in the Grind: Rising Above Workplace Negativity
Hey everyone,
One thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of people really don’t want to work right now, and I understand why. Burnout, low pay, bad management, and endless frustration have worn many people down. But let’s circle back to the main topic of my last newsletter: “She Did the Best She Could With What She Had,” which was about doing what’s right, regardless of how you’re treated or how much you dislike the situation. You dig deep, stay true to yourself, and do the right thing anyway… because that’s who you are.
Today I want to build on that same idea: doing the right thing simply because that’s who you are.
I’ve seen it every day across the many jobs I’ve had: constant complaining, and people turning simple tasks into massive ordeals. This behavior spreads like a virus through a company until it becomes the norm. No matter what values are printed on the wall, the real culture becomes negativity.
The easy thing to do is point fingers at poor leadership or frustrated employees. But here’s the truth: we can’t control the company, the boss, or our coworkers. We can only control ourselves.
That’s why I choose to stay organized, keep my workspace clean, speak professionally, and show up with the energy I’d want from the people around me. Even when the environment is toxic, I still do my best. And when it becomes too much, I move on.
True character isn’t about waiting for the perfect job or perfect boss. It’s about deciding who you’re going to be, no matter what’s happening around you. That choice builds self-respect, earns trust, and opens doors you can’t see yet.
And for those of us building brands and becoming entrepreneurs? Well, this idea speaks directly to us. Let’s carry ourselves with great integrity.
Have you experienced this kind of toxic culture at work? How did you handle it? I’d love to hear your stories. Reply or reach out on X @Neon_on_X.
Until next time, keep dreaming in neon.
